Region 61 began as a Friendship Group within Region 25 in November
2002 with 13 members. By March 2003, the Friendship Group had 26 members
and was rapidly growing. The members of the Friendship Group then decided
to look into the possibility of forming a new Region within the United
States Section. It was learned that 25 members were needed. In April, an
application was made to the National Executive Committee (NEC) for Region
status and that approval was gained. The next step was to gain the approval
of the National Delegate Committee (NDC).
The NDC held its annual convention in Niagara Falls, Ontario on September 28, 2003 through October 2, 2003. Paul Sauerbrey, the NDC proxy from the Friendship Group, was present at the NDC meeting on September 30, 2003, when the NDC unanimously voted to create Region 61 from the Friendship Group. Paul Sauerbrey was presented with a Region 61 banner from the NDC. |
